The treasures on the map were marked with chest icons and Roman numbers ( I, II, III etc.). You don't need a map to unlock the treasures - just go to the spot and start looking. If you're short on lockpicks, you should check this special guide, which will help you get them. Also remember to complete the Unexpected Visit quest and get a shovel before that. Make sure you're ready for anything - try to always have a shovel and some lockpicks.
